Description

Crafted from rattan, this vintage Shanghai weave frog basket is a charming example of traditional Chinese basketry, likely from the mid-20th century. The basket features a whimsical frog perched atop its domed lid, meticulously fashioned from tightly woven rattan strands. The frog's form is accentuated by hand-painted green legs and prominent eyes, providing a delightful contrast to the warm, natural tones of the rattan. Subtle black markings add character to the frog, enhancing its lifelike appearance. The basket's cylindrical body is equally well-crafted, with a consistent weave that showcases the artisan's skill. A warm patina envelops the piece, indicative of careful preservation over the years. Minor surface wear is visible, yet it does not detract from the overall visual appeal, instead adding to its vintage charm. The piece remains structurally sound, without any visible repairs or losses, attesting to its durable construction. Compact in dimensions, this basket measures 4.25 inches in width, 5 inches in height, and 4.75 inches in depth, making it a versatile decorative object. Its unique form and craftsmanship will appeal to collectors of folk art and those with an appreciation for the playful yet functional design.
