Description
A striking pair of vintage Chinese export glazed ceramic Foo Dogs, characterized by their bold presence and vibrant coloration. Each figure stands majestically at over 20 inches tall, perched on a square plinth base. The duo exhibits a classic design with intricately detailed manes and tails, highlighted in a rich green glaze that contrasts with the pristine white of their bodies. The expressive features of the Foo Dogs — including their large, alert eyes and prominent snouts — are rendered with a sense of dynamic vigor. The base is finished in a deep brown, which adds grounding warmth to the composition. Despite minor surface scuffs and small chips at the base edges, these do not detract from the overall aesthetic appeal. The glaze remains lustrous, emphasizing the hand-applied detailing that captures the essence of these protective symbols. Structurally sound, these figures serve as an impressive example of traditional craftsmanship, likely intended to guard and bring auspicious energy. Whether displayed as a pair or individually, their commanding presence and cultural resonance make them a noteworthy addition to any collection or decorative setting.
