Description

This captivating artisanal sculpture is a masterclass in Postmodern organic design, utilizing the sophisticated scagliola technique to capture the intricate beauty of a tortoise shell. Handcrafted from heavy pigmented plaster, the piece features a dynamic, high-contrast marbled palette of deep black and creamy tan. The domed carapace is detailed with a subtle grid defining the individual scutes, creating a visceral, architectural quality that bridges the gap between natural history study and high-end decorative art. Its authoritative presence and unique finish reflect the experimental spirit of late 20th-century artisanal studios, making it a singular focal point for any refined interior gallery. Measuring 8.5 inches wide by 4.75 inches deep and standing 11 inches tall, this substantial sculpture is perfectly scaled for display on a fireplace mantel, a curated library shelf, or as a textured anchor in a global-inspired living space. The piece is in great vintage condition, displaying a soft, age-appropriate patina and minor surface scuffs that only enhance its authentic character and storied history. Whether grounding a coastal retreat or adding organic texture to a modern office, this work of sculpture provides a timeless sense of luxury. Add this exceptional scagliola treasure to your personal collection today.
